Excerpt from the UCSB Current
Five UC Santa Barbara undergraduate students have been named 2024 Barry Goldwater Scholars, a record number for the campus in an unprecedented year in which every UCSB student who was nominated received a scholarship. Established by Congress in 1986 to honor Senator Barry Goldwater, the scholarships are designed to foster and encourage outstanding students to pursue careers in the natural sciences, engineering, and mathematics.
One of the recipients Xuanwei Liang, who is majoring in physics in CCS and wants to pursue a Ph.D. in experimental atomic, molecular, and optical (AMO) physics is from the ECQI-funded Weld Group. The Eddleman Center works to continue outreach with its undergraduate members by providing support and hands-on learning experiences.
