Alex Hallett

Bio: Alex graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Arkansas in 2019. During their undergraduate studies, they worked at their home university developing methods to immobilize catalysts on electrode surfaces. Additionally, they were an Amgen fellow at Caltech where they synthesized bimetallic catalysts for CO2 reduction. They also worked at MIT fabricating superconducting MoN thin films for use in nanowire single-photon detectors (SNSPDs).

They joined the Harter Lab in the Materials Department at UCSB in 2019. Their current work focuses on exploring the relationship between ferroelectricity and superconductivity in strontium titanate (SrTiO3), which is potentially a topological superconductor. More generally, they use computational techniques such as density functional theory (DFT), Monte Carlo simulations, and phonon calculations to explore exotic phenomena in quantum materials.
