Shreyas Parthasarathy

Shreyas is a Ph.D. student in Ania Jayich's group working on building and manipulating coupled quantum systems on or near diamond surfaces. He uses nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers (a workhorse qubit system found in many labs) that are placed nanometers below the edge of the diamond lattice to probe the physics of interacting spin systems just above the surface. In doing so, he hopes to help design interfaces that enable controllable coupling between quantum systems that have different properties. For example, this project takes advantage of the easy-to-observe yet fixed NV center to understand the hard-to-observe many-body dynamics of spin ensembles deposited nearby.

Prior to coming to UCSB, Shreyas was an Engineering Physics student at UC Berkeley. In his free time, he enjoys playing guitar, baking copious amounts of dessert, learning obscure historical facts, and -- as any good Californian should – hiking through and exploring all that the West Coast has to offer.
