David Weld

David earned a B.A. in Physics from Harvard University and a Ph.D. in Physics from Stanford University. He then worked as a postdoctoral researcher and research scientist at MIT before joining the faculty at UC Santa Barbara.

The Weld Group’s current research interests span a range of topics, including quantum simulation, quantum thermodynamics, kicked quantum matter, Floquet engineering, quasicrystals, quantum emulation of ultrafast phenomena, anyon synthesis, atom interferometry, viscophoresis, and defect-adsorbate quantum interfaces. The group utilizes ultracold quantum degenerate gases to investigate a wide variety of quantum dynamical phenomena.
